The abject danger of walking under a warming ice wall was by far the most dangerous physical feature of climbing mount rainier we'd come across. The slope to slope to the left is steeper than it looks, the pathway was narrow and blocks of ice were falling unpredictably from the top. Remember how i mentioned most do this at the early morning when the sun is still down? With colder temperatures the ice tends to stay frozen to itself. As the sun comes out and the day warms up and the ice and snow melt, pieces can tend to break or melt loose and slide or fall down the mountain.

And then we reached Camp Muir.
